Objectives
The strategic objective of the proposal is to jointly create the extrovert development pathways for the disadvantaged areas of the two municipalities through upgrading accessibility infrastructure, increasing capacity and traffic, removing isolation, developing existing entrepreneurship, improving the quality of life and retaining the population.
It is consistent with the Programme’s objective to achieve balance between sustainable regional development and to reinforce the cross-border cooperation between the local population and regional institutions, in accordance with EU and national policies to address common challenges through joint interventions. It is perfectly consistent with the specific objective 1.1 Increase the capacity of CB infrastructure in transport, water & waste management, with the main interventions relating to Planning, construction and rehabilitation of border crossings, planning, construction and rehabilitation of road network
The project by improving accessibility is associated indirectly with
-
transport services for raw materials and promotion of goods for unhindered business operation given the spatial dispersion of the mountainous terrain and the adverse weather conditions.
-
easy access to cultural and tourist resources and visitation increase
-
natural phenomena risk and disaster monitoring and management, considering that much of the Municipality of Georgios Karaiskakis is a Natura 2000 protected area and a high percentage of the eligible area is covered by forests.
The proposal, thus, synergizes with the specific objectives : 2.2 Improve cross-border capacity to support entrepreneurship, business survival and competitiveness, 1.2 Increase the effectiveness of environmental protection & sustainable use of natural resources and 1.4 Improve the effectiveness of risk prevention and disaster management with a focus on forest fires
